Yeah, that's a totally reasonable request. More than happy to accept a PR in this direction.
The two obvious APIs are:

add a new constructor that doesn't perform a search:
Toml::read(foo)

add a builder method that sets some internal parameter that determines whether the search is performed
Toml::file(foo).search(false)
I don't have a preference for either option.
One downside of the second option is that search
only has meaning when the source is a file, yet you can still set it when using direct strings:
Toml::string(foo).search(false)
For the first option, read
implies we're actually going to read something, but that's done later. We could name it something else, of course, I'm just failing to come up with a good, clear name. That second best I've been able to muster is direct_file
. Perhaps read
is fine.
In retrospect, naming file()
something like search()
and keeping file
for this purpose might have been ideal.
