Ok on my system emerge -C udev fixed the systemd install. I am wondering if adding umrg "virtual/udev" under this :

                umrg "sys-fs/udev"

would help

sys-apps/systemd-)

Yes, that does indeed work!

Here's my copy of the script with those changes added. Also added GRUB installation section (my VM wouldn't boot when I first used the script).
