It's not a name, its an identifier. All identifiers in the XML world are case-sensitive. Why deviate? It's one more thing the user (and implementer) has to remember.

Something we have different opinions about, apparently.

Just one more try: In my long dealings with XML, the pattern is that almost everything that means something is to be interpreted case-sensitive. Element and attribute names, function names, variable names, XSLT modes, identifiers as specified in xml:id attributes, and so on. I don't really care where this comes from (although it's an interesting story, thanks), that's water under the bridge. It's just the way it is. Good or bad, liked or not, it doesn't matter anymore.

So again my point is: why deviate? Why not follow the custom that probably everybody with dealings in the XML world expects? It did surprise me.

Anyway, we don't have to come to a decision here, nor do we need to convince each other. It's a detail that I think is worthwhile discussing if/when a new version of Schematron is discussed in a working group.
