The documentation isn't wrong, the code is.
If the 8th argument is received as single characters, it means that it hasn't been enclosed by double quotes. Hence it's the code that should be fixed.

@duncanwebb could you send us an example URL to an NZB that you use which fails? It should probably be an URL since otherwise there's most likely no 8th parameter: [email protected]

The 8th parameter is coming from the usenet indexer so we have no control over this argument. nZEDb based indexers provide the argument. So the idea of the above code was to be more resilient against the case when the string has been split. I've emailed you an example and hope this helps.
