Seems odd! This library doesn't use any features, though, so you may have been using an ancient historical version.

It was 0.3.1.

Ah ok, in that case if you update it should fix this issue

from pkg-config-rs.

Seems that pkg-config 0.3.9 depends on lazy_static, which depends on spin. spin 0.4.5 then fails.

6 | #![cfg_attr(feature = "asm", feature(asm))]

error[E0554]: #[feature] may not be used on the stable release channel
 --> src/lib.rs:7:42

7 | #![cfg_attr(feature = "core_intrinsics", feature(core_intrinsics))]
  |                                          ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

error[E0554]: #[feature] may not be used on the stable release channel
 --> src/lib.rs:8:35
  |
8 | #![cfg_attr(feature = "const_fn", feature(const_fn))]
  |                                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Furthermore, spin uses inline assembly so we get:

error: inline assembly is not stable enough for use and is subject to change (see issue #29722)

How do I use this stuff on rust stable?

It seems that lazy-static is supposed to optionally depend on spin. Therefore I took it out of the chroot. However lazy-static's cargo-build seems to always want to have it and it still fails.

Some other crate is likely enabling the relevant feature in the lazy-static crate, which causes all crates to end up using it.

Moved to rust-lang-nursery/lazy-static.rs#59 .

It seems that pkg-config only uses lazy_static for the tests.
