Picking up as possible bug: if an optional PHP lib is required, a function may detect the missing TLS capacities, disable bridges and output an error message on homepage. Can you confirm this snippet ?

    // throw error and exit
}

Listing extensions:
print_r( get_loaded_extensions() );
→ openssl should be in array

Note: is added by default on Ubuntu. Need checks on Debian, Arch and RHEL/Fedora

Okay I could confirm on ArchLinux (where extension=openssl.so is commented-out)
Long story short karibuTW: if it works, it's good. If you need to change something, it tells you 😉

Usually, on GNU/Linux -based servers:
/etc/php/php.ini
→ look for:
;extension=openssl.so
→ change into:
extension=openssl.so

If it still throws the error, then you need to install the openssl package (on ArchLinux: sudo pacman -S openssl)

Yeah openssl and curl extensions are needed, the first to handle HTTPS connections (aka "TLS-over-HTTP"), and the second to... nothing yet, but it may be necessary for concurrent page fetching (in bridges like Numerama needing to download 5 pages)
