so, yes - albatross will always start with a clean state. how to solve the bootup is to:

• separate out the TLS termination from vmmd
• vmmd is not involved in authentication anymore, and not required as communication broker anymore
• TLS terminator is stateless (apart from ca certificate + server cert), and can be started via e.g. inetd
• it cares about authentication and static resource policies (checks the CA chain), does interactive shells, asn1 decoding of virtual machines, etc. - and connects to vmmd, console, log, stats via a unix domain socket

using the same socket interface (between TLS and vmmd) in a different application (command line utility), which can be a startup script with access to persistent state with virtual machine images and configuration to be deployed.
