My concern is about breaking backwards compatibility, which is why I made that a separate branch. I'm not really sure the best long term solution

The v3 branch will be the last version of cron. I'm updating it with all of the fixes and upgrades between master and v2 and to work with Modules. Please have a look and let me know if there is anything lacking there.
