I updated the example hooks to add an implementation of sklnd's censoring filter. It runs as an output filter, and replaces specific words with [censored].

After looking at sieves closely, I realized input hooks are basically exactly the same as a sieve, since a sieve can modify the input at will, and if it returns None, processing stops.

Doesn't change the fact that output filters would be useful to have!

This could be useful for supporting other protocols. My jabber changes were not very pretty.
