Hello, thank you for the clarification.

The package I started distributing contains the id bitcoin and I think I'll leave it as because I don't really see why users, at least those who don't do dev or test, would like to have two nodes. What is practical with this method is that they can switch from Core to knots (and vice versa I think?) without a triggering a new IDB which is a significant advantage!

Something else, do you think that Knots can be released on the official store in the actual state? you could just add a warning on the store that the installation of knots will replace core?

I think we are very unlikely to do this. Anything on our official registry means that we officially support (and often maintain) that package. What you can do is apply for this to be on our community registry by emailing [email protected] with your repo info, and mentioning your intention to use the bitcoin id. You can also of course host your s9pk anywhere you'd like, or even spin up your own registry for folks to add via their server. The rest of the team will likely want to weigh in on this in regard to our registry.

Again, we may need a more general purpose solution. We've talked about this in theory quite a bit, but there has never been real-world demand for alternative Bitcoin nodes to date. To be honest, there really still isn't, but we've definitely had a handful of people ask about this. You may also be interested in reading about our Marketplace Strategy more broadly.
