For my immediate needs, probably. However it seems like having cryptcheck as a special purpose function that is specific only to crypt is less desirable than having a general purpose verify that you would expect to work on any series of layers, including chains that may not include crypt.

This is why I think it makes sense to move towards making the distinction of having one command (like "verify") for more complete full-stack checking, while keeping check for "check only the "minimal" or specified attributes.

I chose this terminology because in the past I have used backup software that made the distinction between "verify" and "validate". In my head, "verify" is analogous to checking all the metadata, while "validate" would be check --download.

Making rclone cryptcheck work though virtual file systems seems achievable. However a fully general purpose unwrapper and checker would be very hard and it would be very difficult to make that general.
