Confirmed the same is case with rails older version. how do we want to take this forward.

Minimum code to regenerate (syntax error in erb)

<%= fun( %>

This line (493) produces a syntax error with wrong line number because compiled_source does not contain actual string.

Because of this during display we get wrong line number i.e. #17 and in preview we don't have that much lines so that is empty.
