Hi @pastafari.
The purpose of this box is to provide a trivial self-contained environment for Rails core development. The use case in mind is someone that wants to contribute something, fires the VM, gets a patch done, and discards the box. So everything is thought to be streamlined, vagrant up
and done.
Because of that, I believe the current Vagrantfile is fine as is. The current configuration works on several versions of Vagrant as is, and does not issue warnings under 1.5.
Same applies to the box name. precise32
is super standard, mentioned in many tutorials, and again works out of the box without additional commands.
Then, some people may want to customize the box, specially regular contributors. Those then can customize the configuration. A modified base box called precise32
would be a special need that would also deserve a locally modified Vagrantfile, rather than a complication in the default workflow.
Thanks for opening the issue anyway.
