Here's an icon I put together for VimR. I'm adding to the conversation as both an option and fodder for additional ideas.
If anyone else has any additional icon ideas... please do share :)
from vimr.
I also found this sweet icon from a MacVim commit that no one seemed to care about https://github.com/kaishin/macvim/commit/fedcb4579b68439dba85b9d7fa4b076faac7ebad
from vimr.
I prefer a different icon than the standard Vim icon, since VimR is not (Mac)Vim. I really like the suggestion of @dnerdy. It's simple (I like simple and elegant), but still shows that some great things (hopefully :) are coming with it.
I like the Adium approach to the App icon: make it easily customizable. Let me create an issue which extends the plugin architecture to include custom Dock icon à la Adium, cf #76.

@qvacua I like this one https://dribbble.com/shots/337065-MacVim-Icon-Updated
Edit: which is not currently used by MacVim
from vimr.
That one is really cool too

+1 for the icon linked by @gglanzani – I’ve manually set that for my MacVim copy. As Björn Winkler won’t use it (he stated a while ago prefers to keep full Vim compatibility, 70s design sensibilities be damned) it would make a nice fit for VimR.

The only thing I would suggest is tweaking the colours. You wouldn't want
them to be the exact same right?

The icon linked by @gglanzani is also really nice.

I think this Sublime icon is excellent. I love the flat-ish look:

I really like the icon of Andrew (linked by @gglanzani). I contacted Andrew and he gave his permission to use it for VimR. He's also agreed to modify and fine-tune the icon for a more Yosemitean look. When I get some free time, I'll release a new version with the current version of Andrew's icon.
Thank you all for the other suggestions and you guys will be able to use them all by #76.

Yes, thank you everyone for your suggestions and feedback. This is a great icon. Also, thanks @james2doyle for getting the conversation started.

Now we can alert the media when the new icon drops
from vimr.
So, the new version is out in the wild: please spread the "good news"
