Thanks for submitting this issue! You're right that the colours aren't very legible.

I've added face definitions for mark-multiple to the dark and light themes. I'm using a yellow background for both the original and additional selections -- it's useful to be able to see when mark-multiple is in effect, so it makes sense that the regular "selected" text should change colour when entering mark-multiple.

In the next hour or so, Melpa will build a new version of the color-theme-sanityinc-solarized package. (Watch the "melpa_emacs" twitter account for build updates.) What you need to do, then, is wait a while then M-x package-list-packages, press "U" for "update" and then "x" for "execute". This will update all your installed packages. You may have to restart Emacs for the theme changes to take effect.

Hi, thanks for quick updating!

Unfortunately, after I updated all packages, I found it has the yellow background indeed, but grey foreground as before. Still not very legible.

Any additionally operations except update packages?

Yes, you're right -- I've updated the theme again, so hopefully with the next package update, things will be fixed. I'm just using the plain grey background now, without yellow.
