If you implement a custom process method then you have to handle the upload and status codes yourself. You can call error() or abort() depending on what your server returns.

There's a workaround but I was just wondering if it was normal that even if the http response looked to be sent from the server (it appears in the logs), filepond (or the browser) didn't react to that till later on.

I think it depends on the browser, you cant act sooner than the XMLHttpRequest updates / errors.
