You mentionined units which are just used for measuring areas ( meter square, acres, square feet, hectarts). So i makes no sense to use them to measure linear distances. The example in your URL also uses them for measuring the enclosed area - not the distances of the lines

What you actually can do is changing distance units from kilometer to landmiles and nautical miles.
