It's all about maximizing the freedom of immediate vs downstream users. vectorbt was created with the premise that it can give ordinary folks tools that were accessible only to some experts/companies before. On the one hand, I would like to restrict the commercial use and distribution of the package without giving back to the community (source code disclosure). On the other hand, I understand that GPLv3 may scare "good" organizations and their devs away and prevent widespread use. Thus, vectorbt will be relicensed to MIT/APLv2 with the 0.15.3 release.
