Hi @rhysmeister,
This may be expected if your mongodump binary is version 3.2 or higher. mongodump in 3.2 introduced inline gzip compression in threads so we automatically disable gzipping of the tar archive if mongodump 3.2+ is used so we don't compress twice. Inside each tar there should be several *.bson.gz files if this is the case.
If you're not using mongodump 3.2+, please let me know the following:
- Output of "mongodb-consistent-backup --version".
- Output of "mongodump --version".
- Output of "tar tvf /path/to/a/tar" (any shard is good).
