The executable generated from py2exe does not open a Pyglet window when run. It seems to be related to the inclusion of the Numpy module (I have seen this on another project). Try to find a workaround as Numpy is essential to this project.

The orientation and movement speed of the camera system is heavily dependent on the frame rate, with low frame rates making the system unresponsive and sluggish.

The draw method of the console class accounts for around half the CPU time according to cProfile, there are probably some easy gains to be made here.

Output a full caustic pattern cycle to a gif file for use in another program

Profiling the code reveals a lot of time is spent in the setup routines for the Tessendorf heightfield generator on large tile sizes (128x128+). Porting some of these routines to Cython could be helpful.

It looks like it almost tiles, with a few tweaks it might just work.
