Active sources like Forge's Asset Library or s3 buckets make it slightly more complicated to use purely string setting to resolve sound file path, but it's not a big deal and can be worked around.
If you're interested, other module makers have used a similar solution to implement FilePicker settings for image files, I don't know if it can be used on any file type or even if it's worth to add since 0.8.x is coming.
Out of the modules I have installed I've found MrPrimate's Tokenizer and Otigon's Automated-Animations to have the same filepicker solution.
