I think then should be limited to if constructs and the like. The fat arrow => really looks wrong in all cases - it should be reserved for things like procs:

pow = n => n*n
puts pow 10

Or hashes, of course.

The colon : looks right in case statements. For loops, do looks good.

  • Yes, the arrow is also used for hashes with variable keys (well, the most generic hash construction literal form).
  • Personally I primarily use the fat arrow all the time out of habit (it was the only one I implemented at first), but I've slowly started enjoying the pythonish : more and more. It's very clean and obvious in many cases.
  • I have considered the fat arrow for defining pure functions (same notation as current funcs, just replacing -> with =>, instead of marking with 'pure pragma).

We'll keep this open and gather more input. :)
