License upgrade ? about sfcgal HOT 6 CLOSED

Hi Sandro,

CGAL already change its licence in 2012 (from QGL to GPL),
and so maybe, a day, will want to change again
(hopefully again to something more open)

So we choose to SFCGAL, a licence who fit SFCGAL needs,
and obvisously compatible to CGAL licence itself.

The latest version of SFCGAL (1.0.3) is so LGPL 2+.

What I read in the CGAL website is that the license of foundations is LGPL 3+, making it illegal to distribute SFCGAL as LGPL 2. It should be at_least LGPL 3.

SFCGAL is released under LGPL 2+.
CGAL is released under whatever it's want. (and now (L)GPL3))

And when you link the two together the more restrictive take the advantage.
And for now, it's means a SFCGAL promotion to (L)GPL 3.
But a link time, not before.

Yes, sorry, it's not illegal to distribute SFCGAL itself :)
But distributing it as a binary linking against CGAL would make it LGPL3.

In turn, it being LGPL3 would make it illegal to distribute in a binary PostGIS, as it is GPL2 only.
Indeed this is more a problem with PostGIS than with SFCGAL.
