Probably the original logic was that one takes care of one's garden better than the municipality does its public spaces :P, but in a map, public spaces should stand out more than private spaces.

This is a good change.

Isn't it too light now, lighter than a grassland? Should "more green" mean "more trees"?

leisure=garden (residential esp.) could be just a plain lawn or a couple of garden beds w/ carrots and cabbage :)

Agree.

How different/contrasting are parks, grass, and gardens in other maps?

If we choose to stick with a 3-color palette then gardens should be medium color I guess (lighter than forests and darker than grassy areas). However leisure-park is medium also and we'll lose some nice detalisation.

Actually leisure-park could be very different density-wise from a forest to completely open. Its more a designation of usage rather than a physical description. So maybe we can "invent" a separate hue for parks? So that any kind of "physical" vegetation could look more or less distinct on it?

Upd: though leisure-garden also could be anything from trees to grass :) actually its not easy to draw a line between parks and gardens :)
