@pepelsbey Do you remember for which other domains (that Dev.Opera links to/embeds) we need to download the files as well? my.opera.com and such… Can you post the full list here?

Here’s what I came up with so far (while reading through man wget):

wget -o wget-log.txt -S --protocol-directories -E -r -m -k -p -D 'dev.opera.com,devfiles.myopera.com,people.opera.com,static.myopera.com' --follow-ftp 'http://dev.opera.com/'

@pepelsbey As soon as you post the list of other domains to be whitelisted I’ll give this a try :)

Here's the domains list I got using WebDevil

  • dev.opera.com
  • devfiles.myopera.com
  • people.opera.com
  • static.myopera.com

Thanks. Btw I started the script seconds after @pepelsbey’s last message, still running. This is gonna take a while…

The wget command seems to have done its job :) Shall we add a new, separate private repository so I can host these static files? Or should I add them as a branch to this repo?

See https://github.com/operasoftware/devopera-static-backup. The URLs for the static version are slightly different of course, since they have a .html extension, but I was thinking we could use Apache’s MultiViews feature to automatically make sure older URLs still work.

I’ll file issues with the static backup in its own repository from now on.

Update by @andreasbovens (posting here for future reference):

14:40:18 <andreasb> talked to sysadmin
14:40:26 <andreasb> about move of Dev.Opera
14:40:37 <andreasb> might be a better solution to use AWS (which opera.com is using)
14:40:40 <andreasb> TBD tomorrow
14:41:00 <andreasb> ping mathiasbynens
14:41:10 <andreasb> (just wanted to get your attention :) )
14:41:36 <andreasb> there is also the possibility to keep Dev.Opera around a little longer (even although My.Opera will shut down on March 1)
14:42:14 <andreasb> so maybe it's OK to let the static copy of Dev.Opera rest for a few days (in case there's still work needed)
14:42:28 <andreasb> and pick it up once we have determined exactly what we want to do
14:42:38 <andreasb> hopefully in 2 days
