Yes, I need to document this - it's the same snippet format as VSCode (which is basically the same as TextMate): https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/userdefinedsnippets

Can it be disabled?

There isn't a configuration setting at the moment - it might make sense to add one. The only entry point for it is Oni's completion menu:

So it gets implicitly disabled if that is off. Let me know if it'll interfere with the native config we have: https://github.com/onivim/oni/wiki/How-To:-Make-Oni-closer-to-bare-Vim-experience

I have the completion menu open, but I'd like to not have the snippets enabled (for stability and avoiding distractions).
