Not currently.

The most global solution might be to add the option to have a little icon in the (let's say) topright of the note, that shows the frontmatter when you click on it.

We could then also show certain metadata values in certain places, where would you like to see the created/modified dates? When you hover over the link in the dirtree? (Personally, I think that is kind of clunky, and not the most useful feature).

But on a website one reads this not so often.

I agree, that hovering over the link in the dirtree is clunky.
