The buzzer uses the underlying gpio command to setup hardware pwm for that pin (1). The current parameters are
gpio mode 1 pwm
gpio pwm-ms
gpio pwm 1 511
gpio pwmc 100
I guess one of those messes with a register that affects aplay...

Apparently the hardware PWM does "share" the registers with the audio circuitry so it's an either or situation. If anyone can find a way to reset the external audio drivers on closing Node-RED please let us know.
