I actually found this issue with the BT HomeHub 3. Even though the library was sending the request with the bit set to support recursion as is required (I think). The homehub was sometimes sending back the response with the bit set and other times not. I tihnk it might have been to do with whether the result was being cached or not. On looking at the packets in detail there are no other indicators to say this is cached or not.

But doing this same fix helped for me.

Thank you guys, just got this issue as I've installed my homehub for a BT visit tomorrow (Infinity upgrade!!) and this changed resolved my issue.
