There are many places where security groups are simply a collection of Strings. In EC2 these Strings were names. In VPC these are IDs. You're only given one slot and it was an AWS call to change what they put in it. When I did VPC I could have gone through the whole UI and done look ups in these places (if VPC find name for id). I didn't. Part of the reason that I didn't is because I started to notice new security group references on some objects that had both the name and ID. I took advantage of those in a few places but not many. This is work I have been meaning to get back to and I completely agree that it is an issue. I guess some part of me wanted to wait until they baked this in a little better before I cowboyed up and just made it work.

See #336 for a discussion of this in more detail. Maybe we can close this issue as a dup.
