I recommend posting this problem on the Asgard discussion forum in case other users have experienced and solved a similar problem http://groups.google.com/group/AsgardUsers

Depending how much stuff is in your AWS account for Asgard to cache, it's not unheard of for Asgard to need over 1GB of memory, for all the Grails objects and all the Amazon objects together.

Those "AmazonClientException: Unable to unmarshall response" errors seem to happen to me when my network connection to the AWS API endpoints is flaky and my account has a lot of cloud metadata to download.

I suggest starting Asgard with the JVM parameter -DskipCacheFill=true so you can load the Asgard pages without waiting for all your caches to be fully correct. The background cache-filling will pause and retry if there is a network problem pulling data from Amazon. If Asgard still becomes unresponsive, then you might need a larger heap size. The memory and CPU usage all seemed to be tied to my usage of Ubuntu 12.04 instead of RHEL or one of its derivatives. I chose to use the amazon linux ami and go from there installing oracle's jdk and and the tomcat rpm. Things work fine now!

What ever happened to compile once run anywhere?
