An important hint might be that chrome switched to 64 bit for mac with that version. So maybe this changed something (user agent?).

There are no browser specific checks for WebGL. The only browser specific check is for the existence a WebKit/Blink specific property before using the fallback CSS 3D transform renderer, since it doesn't really work anywhere else.

Also, it's working fine for me using Chromium 39 on Linux Mint 17.
