I was thinking about adding a tab thumbnail of the next (and previous tab) perhaps near the middle (vertically) on the left and right of the tab preview. You still don't get a whole overview of all your tabs, but you can glance at what you're about to switch to or what you just switched from.

Closed by d0ccf80: Moving to next/previous tab should show tab context
Reuse the tabs search to show context as well as tab previews and allow them to be transparent.
