the user may want to use a "." instead of a space

Perhaps no extra character then? Too much fanciness might be confusing like tab inserts "." after domain suggestions and spaces after others..

Ya I agree

I've just been pressing the right arrow (or end) to finish a suggested word.

Also... tab currently moves down through the popup list, and shift+tab moves up. I never use it, but some might.

That's a good point. I personally think tab should do what's purposed here, and so I overlooked the default behavior. Perhaps this should be another user pref? default false (ie: don't change the default behavior unless the user changes this pref)

we should prob disable the shift + tab behavior when we change tab's behavior too.

Would it make sense to complete the word on " " or "."? That would mean typing "git"[hub] where [hub] is completed and pressing "." would result in "github." instead of "git."

I wouldn't think so.

Maybe a user wants to search the popup list based on multiple words, or go to "git.com".

Yeah I think this could cause frustration, if you wanted git.com then this functionality would be a huge pain to work around.

What should the behavior be when hitting tab after completing? Move to search?
