Why are there such annoying restrictions?
You would have to ask Realtek this question. However, good luck with that.
Please fix the driver.
I won't be able to do that. This is an old, very fragile driver that is hard to maintain. We need a new, updated driver from Realtek... but I am not holding my breathe.
I provide a lot of information about USB WiFi in the following repo:

Near the bottom of README.md, I have a section for each modern Realtek chipset. There are two chipset/driver combinations that do support DFS channels... 8812au and 8821au (8811au and 8821au). As you can see, my current recommendation for adapters using the 8814au chipset is:
Recommendation: Do not buy adapters based on this chipset. You will be disappointed.
