As an update: this was improved in #173 .

Reproducing your example gives the following error now:

DeserializationError { message: "invalid type: string \"asd\", expected i32" }

Note this still doesn't include the field name, and unfortunately this is due to limitations in the design of serde deserializers in general, so I'm not sure if there's much we can do about it. For reference, using the same inputs but with JSON and serde_json produces the following error:

Error("invalid type: string \"asd\", expected i32", line: 0, column: 0)
