People generally run god as root when you need different services to be run under different users.

thats the same as running 'sudo god -c ...' right? Did that. Still won't startup correctly.
Is running god as root also running the god-run processes as root? I feel like god then spawns its monitored process off separately. How can I tall those processes to run as root? Thanks for the response.

If you run god as root, you can specify the user/group that spawned processes should run as. Check the docs at http://god.rubyforge.org/ and search for "CHANGING UID/GID FOR PROCESSES"
