There is one flaw I've just noticed. The '$Date$' and '$Rev$' strings are only updated if the file in which the they are present is changed.

So for example if the the subpackage SIunits.mo was changed but not package.mo itself the versionBuild and versionDate fields won't be updated in package.mo upon commit.

So perhaps we can't use this nice facility for automatically generating a global revision build number and date.

_ However there is some external method svnversion available which could perhaps be integrated in the "build" process. See the yellow box in the section Keyword Substitution of the SVN book._

Workaround for the above flaw:

Introduce a small change (e.g. white space) in the package.mo when preparing a build in order to make sure that versionBuild and versionDate are up to date.
