Hardware:
- note that the Roland keyboard does NOT output midi clock, at least how it's currently set-up; I had to take the midi out from the TR-8
Jack:
- in qjackctl, I connected the midi from my usb into sooperlooper
- ALSA: "16:USB Midi > 0:USB Midi MIDI 1" => "129:sooperlooper > 0:sooperlooper"
- these ports don't show up in 'jack_lsp -c' so it might be a separate thing to make this link programmatically
Sooperlooper (SL):
- set "sync_source" to "Midi"; you'll know it's working because in the GUI the 'tap' button should blink and the bpm should update
- pretty sure that if 'quantize' isn't on, the sync option does nothing
- need to figure out how to set this using OSC...
- I think I want this set to "8th"
- but actually, if you set "8th/cycle" to "8", and quantize to "cycle", then it will sync to every measure
- on each track, you need to set "sync" for it to quantize operations like record, overdub, trigger, etc.
- I do NOT want "play sync" I don't think, even though it sounded like a good idea in text. in practice it seemed to make things way worse.
