Oh yeah. I agree, that would be pretty awesome.

I'm not super familiar with the Minimig core, but I had the thought today that being able to create sort of, manifest files, would be really useful. All it would be is paths to the 4 devices, maybe allowing a few options for each that could be selected (say for multi-disc games, you would be able to select which disc to load first.)

The idea was so that games could be completely separate vhd files. So something like a Warcraft 2 manifest could be selected from the mister menu, it could assign a specific ms-dos vhd (could be generic or specific to this game), the vhd with the installed game, and the cd-rom required to play it, then it would boot. The ms-dos vhd could run a batchfile that would be expected to be on the 2nd drive so each game could customize this and offer up a menu of game options, or just boot directly into the game.

Obviously the idea needs a bit of fleshing out, but I think it would be really useful for packaging up games+configuration in one easy to load format.

For ao486 there is utility to load specific CD from command line. This is tuned for config where you have launcher with config to load specific CD for game upon launching.

That works well for, say, the Top 500 Pack, but less so for flipping the Top 500 Pack with a Windows 95 installation.

That said, it's six options max to change for me (disk swaps). I don't know if there are any other settings required.

I would support a config feature too!

You can create a batch files for each config you like. Using utilities imgset, sysctl, sbset you can create configs as you wish.
Probably you can add these configs in game launcher, so it will start for example windows.
Unlike OSD you may have unlimited configs through batch files.
It's computer at the end - it lets you do more and more flexible.

You even can use boot manager from Win95 and add your settings in autoexec.bat according to option chosen in boot menu.
