I don't have time to implement this feature at the moment, but I'll keep this request open, so I can probably implement it later this year. Pull requests are very welcome by the way.

It was possible with versions 1.2 and 2.1.0. Did not check other versions. Starting with 3.0.0 this is not possible anymore. Note that you need to run gradle <= 2.13 in order to have a download progress. Otherwise, you'll encounter
Unable to get progress logger. Download progress will not be displayed.

@koppor Thanks to @gamerson and #70 the current snapshot supports the file protocol, so it should be possible to download from Windows shares again. I haven't tried it yet though, so I'd be happy if someone could confirm.
