To be fair, when I create a blank Electron project using the steps from https://www.electronjs.org/docs/latest/tutorial/quick-start, I also get this:
npm start
> [email protected] start
> electron .
[2686:1016/145305.427084:ERROR:browser_main_loop.cc(1400)] Unable to open X display.
The futex facility returned an unexpected error code.
/home/jonas/my-electron-app/node_modules/electron/dist/electron exited with signal SIGABRT
This is probably an Electron issue, see: electron/electron#28244

Closing as I got it running of a fresh install of Ubuntu 21.04 on WSL2. I will try to find time to test a fresh WSL install of Ubuntu 20.04 as well.
