Sounds reasonable. Would you like to submit a pull request?

I'll certainly try to; was waiting to confirm that I wasn't missing the obvious before I did so. ;)

No, nothing obvious. irclog2html.py was very much driven by scratching my itch (which was producing HTMLs for daily log files with minimum effort), and I regret not spending the time to polish it up to be more generally useful.

I glanced at the tests today and noticed that irclog2html is producing anchors with full dates in them:
<tr id="t2005-01-08T23:47:54">
But that's only because the source log files produced by Supybot's ChannelLogger plugin contain full timestamps by default. irclog2html just uses the time extracted from the log file without massaging it in any way.
Personally, I'm sometimes annoyed by the anchors being too long, since the date is already present in the filename, the way I use it. Also, I'm reluctant to break old links by changing the anchor format.
Anyway, I'm still in favour of making irclog2html better handle log files spanning multiple days, if someone else sends me a pull request, that is ;). So far what I've done was use a different script to split them into one file per day.
