The way I do it is push the current location to the user's profile. You can use an object like {room: 12cbi32132}
and then query for both online status and matching current location for users if you want to display everyone in a room.
But say the user visits their dashboard or another untracked page, you'll still need to clear the previous location.

@geekyme and @jonjamz I do this in a different way in the chatrooms of CrowdMapper, if you want to check that out. It's done in the publish function.
If you are talking about something where the package keeps track of which route a user is looking at, we could add in a weak dependency on iron router and listen for route changes. However, I'm not sure I want to add this to the package. At the very least it would be opt in, because listening to route changes would result in a heck of a lot more traffic.
