This is unlikely to be an issue for metalsmith, since it's used to generate static sites offline and doesn't typically process untrusted user input.
Since it seems the slug package is unmaintained though it might still be a good idea to fork or switch to a new package.

https://www.npmjs.com/package/slugify is still in active development and is pretty much a drop in replacement.
