IMO, in your question(what is the goal to have owners?
) by saying owners
, I hope you meant assignee/assignees, let me know if I'm wrong. The main behind this is that when someone is assigned to a specific task then the assigned user gets notified about it(see pic below) and can act accordingly.
And, when several people are assigned for the same task, which is the idea/feature I'm trying to explain and propose, all of them get notified and can work collaboratively. Additionally, everybody knows who is doing what(structure & organization), whose responsibility to do a specific task in case some kind of questions arise along the way or everybody knows whom to address their questions/concerns to if something happens unexpectedly. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for this suggestion, @ikjnv! Do you imagine any of these users can complete the task, or do they all need to "complete" it for themselves? What other interactions would you find useful when multiple assignees are defined for a task?
from mattermost-plugin-playbooks.
@lieut-data It would make sense if any of these assigned users can complete the task for everybody, not only for themselves. Regarding other interactions, I haven't thought about other features. Being able to assign multiple people is what I thought was missing.

What you described is already the current behaviour, any participant can check off any task regardless if it is assigned to them. Could you help us understand the nuances that you had in mind besides that?
from mattermost-plugin-playbooks.
@itao Currently, I don't think that it is possible to assign several people for a single task in playbooks. What I meant was that it would be better if multiple users "simultaneously" can be assigned for a single task in playbook. But it looks impossible at the moment.

Gotcha, I understood what you meant and am trying to get more insight to the motivation. Since anyone can already check off tasks regardless if they're the explicit owner, what is the goal to have have owners?

when several people are assigned for the same task ... all of them get notified
Gotcha! This was key, thank you for clarifying. Let us think on this for a bit. We're also exploring an initiative called Threads Everywhere that would have some overlap as it tries to bring interaction parity between message post and tasks (ie. following, @ mention, comment thread, notifications)

Hey guys,
any news on that? It would be really handy for us as well

Hi @bokkabonga! I regret that our priorities have shifted away from this feature request towards other efforts. There's no plans currently on the roadmap to add this functionality.
