At the moment that is not supported only basic authentication can be done. There is a start for some security solutions in the google stuff but only a start.

If you are request an image, i'm assuming you're executing a web request. Since we've now started going down the spring route, why not just implement spring security for the authentication (and use basic auth by default), but let it be user configurable?
