I think a Windows-specific implementation of the pool_allocator would be fine. I remember being confused by this when I hit it, so a more robust workaround would be great.

OK, I'll think about how to do this. So far I have discovered that this bug only appears in the Windows Debug build. In the Windows Release build the STL container does not internally copy the pool_allocator
object, so there is only one util::FixedMallocPool
object, not two objects pointing to the same memory resource. The converting copy constructor definition can even be removed from pool_allocator
, so it seems that MSVC's implementation may or may not require it, even though the C++ standard requires it.
