The metalogger is offline- you have to restore the metadata to get the metadata.mfs necessary to start a new master. The shadow master is online, and you just change its role by reloading the configuration file to have a live master. Especially if you have lots of file, metadata reconstruction may take time, and this way there is not even that time down.

Thank you. I have tested the shadow master function.
When master server fails, make the shadow master become master:
- Modify the IP of shadow master manually
- Change the PERSONALITY value from shadow to master
- Reload the configure file by "mfsmaster reload"

Hi Liqiangvip,
You are right we can promote shadow as master . But when we are implementing this into production system , if suddenly master server fails , How can we manually switch to this setting as soon as ? Or if we got 1 or 2 minute to setup this shadow to master then what will happen for that offline data that users trying to write on that time? Is there is any HA possibilities available?
