I think the pipe issue can be closed - the current approach is good enough and has a simple implementation. About issue #20 - I agree, we should make sure that's not a fastest issue and maybe add a note to the documentation so others don't step into the same problem.

I created the pull requests #22 and #23 to include some changes that I would like to have incorporated for a stable release. These changes help in my testing environment.
